Brandon Washington, a senior at Asheville High, recently provided his voice to the February 13th Gardner-Webb vs. UNC Asheville basketball game that was broadcast by WMYA-TV and was also carried by ESPN3.  His deep voice was used on the sponsor “billboards”:  “Tonight’s  game was brought to you by:  . . . .”  The guys in the production truck enjoyed working with Brandon, whose voice resembles a young James Earl Jones.  In fact, he delighted the crew by saying “Luke, I am your father” upon request in his Darth Vader voice.

In addition to running track at AHS, Brandon has also been a voiceover talent for this season’s Cougar Sport Network basketball broadcasts.  He also recently met Don Robertson, a 1947 graduate of Lee Edwards High (Asheville High) who was known as the “Voice of CBS Sports” for 30 years.  “That was incredible,” said Brandon, “Even at his age he still has ‘The Voice’.”

Brandon is the latest of many students who have used the Cougar Sports Network as a springboard for work at the regional and national level.  He is currently considering college offers which include engineering and communications in addition to track.
