Asheville High senior Mackenzie LaSure repeated as the NCHSAA 3-A tennis tournament’s singles champion by beating teammate Alix Theodossiou, 6-3, 6-0, October 29th in Greensboro.LaSure said she has committed to play college tennis for Appalachian State. She was the 3-A singles runner-up as a sophomore before winning the championship as a junior. Theodossiou’s appearance in the state-championship match was her best-ever showing in singles. Her only losses for the season were to teammate LaSure. The Asheville Team, MAC Champions, made it to the state semifinals before losing to private school Charlotte Catholic 8-1 on November 2nd. LaSure won her match for the Cougars and finished the season 28-0, while Theodossiou was 26-3. Congratulations on an outstanding season!

Jerry Porter has been named the N.C. Tennis Coaches Association's Boys Coach of the Year. Porter coached the Cougars to a 19-1 record and the NCHSAA 3A Boys Dual Team Championship last spring. Porter will be formally honored by the NCTCA in January.
