Track and Field : Presson Receives Top State Track and Field Honor

ASHEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUT NAMED GATORADE® NORTH CAROLINA BOYS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
CHICAGO (June 22, 2010) — In its 25th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, today announced Isaac Presson of Asheville High School as its 2009-10 Gatorade North Carolina Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

Presson is the first Gatorade North Carolina Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year to be chosen from Asheville High School.

Track and Field : Treakle Earns Bronze Medal in National Track Meet (Citizen-Times)

CHARLOTTE - Asheville High rising senior Sophia Treakle came away from the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, June 29th, with a bronze medal and personal record in the 400-meter hurdles.

Treakle's time of 1 minute, 1.11 seconds is the fastest run by a North Carolina girl this year and the fourth best in state history.

University of Central Florida recruit Aisha Frazier, who hails from Marietta, Ga., won Sunday's race (59.94) at Charlotte's Belk Track.

Track and Field : AHS Men and Women's Track and Field Teams Wrap Up Another Strong Season

Here are the highlights from the end of the Asheville High 2008 outdoor track season:

AHS Women
The Women's team had undeniably the best season ever recorded. Under the guidance of head coach Randy Ashley and assistant coach Alvin Pickett, and volunteer Chi Sawyer, the girls came in 3rd at the County Meet, 2nd at the Conference Meet and 2nd at the 3A West Regional Meet at TC Roberson on May 10, 2008.

Highlights of the West Regional meet include Sophia Treakle (Jr) taking first place medals in the 100 meter hurdles(14.79) and 300 meter hurdles (45.51) setting regional records in both events. Emily Egelhoff-Whalen (Jr) ran the 800 meters in 2:20.34 to finish in 3rd place; just missing a win by hundredths of a second.

Track and Field : AHS Performs Well in State Indoor Track Meet

The Asheville boys indoor track team finished second in the 2008 NCHSAA State meet, led by speedster Giovanni McKnight and distance runners John Harwell and Isaac Presson. Hurdler Sophia Treakle led the girls team. Click the link below for complete results.
