Asheville Citizen-Times - October 30, 2005 - The Asheville High field hockey team has been looking for respect all season. They earned a little bit more Saturday afternoon with a runner-up finish at the state Class 4-A/3-A championship in Mount Tabor, where the Cougars lost to Chapel Hill 2-0.

"The key was that they have a middle school team and we dont," coach Lauren Kaye said. "Do I think we could have won? Absolutely. Why didn't we win? I still haven't figured that out yet." Asheville, which features four starting freshmen, focused on defense throughout the week's practice, but the Cougars couldn't find a way to convert any of their eight shots on goal.

Alex Gittemeier recorded eight saves for the Cougars, who finished third in the unsanctioned state finals last year. "I got to give credit to my three captains (Elise Goodrich, Davis Hillier, Paige Chamberlin)," Kaye said. "It wasn't their best game, but they gave everything they had and left it out on the field. They never quit."

Congratulations on a great season!

Football Franklin - October 28, 2005 - It took the 3rd ranked AHS football team just 3:48 to begin the rout of unbeaten MAC foe Franklin (8-1, 4-1) that ended in a 49-28 final score.  Johnny White led the effort with his best outing ever, finishing with 34 carries for 368 yards and 6 touchdowns.  He also surpassed, for the moment, Crezdon Butler's career rushing record.  Butler finished with 14 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown.  It was the Cougar offense's largest point total of the year, while the defense held the 7th ranked Panthers' potent offense to below its average point total of 35.5 per game.  Johnny White.
