Asheville -- After winning the Mountain Athletic Conference outright thanks in part to a 2-0 win over T.C. Roberson and 4-1 win over North Buncombe, Asheville sailed through the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs with a 6-0 win over Fred T. Foard. First year coach Bill Hillier led Asheville to its second victory of the season at home over Mountain Heritage 9-7 on March 5. After a 2-2 tie in the first inning, a five-run rally in the third inning gave Asheville an early lead. Asheville would score two more runs in later innings.   Heritage had a rally of their own, but Asheville held onto their lead to win.
