Sylva, NC - September 10 - Johnny White led the top-ranked Cougars with 9 rushes for 169 yards and four touchdowns in a 55-6 rout over Smoky Mountain High School in the MAC Conference opener. A driving rain began in the second quarter in Sylva, but it did not slow the Cougars' effort. Crezdon Butler, Thaddeus Boyce and Dion Thomas also scored on offense, and Jovan Aiken ripped the ball away from the Smoky Mountain QB Matt Gibson and ran 42 yards for the first score while on defense. Asheville has scored 145 points in three games while allowing only 19.
The Asheville High School football team is ranked #1 in the Associated Press statewide 3A poll once again for the week of September 7th. The Cougars were ranked #1 for 9 weeks during the 2003 season. Three Mountain Athletic Conference teams are ranked in the top twenty. Polls are also included from N C Preps and Drew Pasteur. Click "Read more" below for the top teams in these 3A polls.

Pilot Mountain, NC - The Asheville Cougar football team scored on the first two plays from scrimmage (Butler 67 yard run; White 72 yard run) and that was all the great defense needed as the Cougars go 2-0 with a 49-6 non-conference win at East Surry High School. Click here for stats.
Asheville -- The Cougars easily defeated the Rockets of A.C. Reynolds in the season opener 41-7 at Asheville High School Memorial Stadium. The highly anticipated rivalry game was completely dominated by the Cougars, who were not scored upon until the 4th quarter. Be sure and tune in on Monday night for the CSN broadcast!
