Asheville -- The Cougars finish their season 10-0 (6-0 in the MAC) and take the conference title after a 43-7 win over the North Buncombe Black Hawks during Parent's Night and their final regular season game. The win gives Asheville the conference title outright and guarantees a high playoff seed.

The win over North Buncombe gives Asheville a 29-1 conference record since 2002, the o­nly loss to Roberson in 2004. The Cougars maintain their streaks as #2 in the state in scoring in double digits and games not shut out.

Congratulations Cougars! Asheville will play at home next Friday night, against an opponent to be decided this weekend.

Asheville High School retired football jersey #30 in honor of Leonard Little at halftime of the North Buncombe game.  Cougar Sports Network Executive Producer Tim Amos and AHS Coach Gene Hammonds made the presentation.

A 1993 graduate, Little played for Asheville High from 1989-92.  He was All Conference for three years, All State his senior year, and represented North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl.  Asheville's records were 11-2 and 8-3 during his last two seasons. 

Little continued his career at the University of Tennessee  where he was All Southeastern Conference in 1996 and 1997, and was named to the 1997 AP All America team.  He played in the Orange Bowl for the Vols in 1998. 

Little was drafted in the third round (65th overall) by the St. Louis Rams in the 1998 NFL draft.  To date, Little has played in two Super Bowls and o­ne Pro Bowl and is considered o­ne of the best defensive linemen in the NFL.

Franklin - October 28, 2005 - It took the 3rd ranked AHS football team just 3:48 to begin the rout of unbeaten MAC foe Franklin (8-1, 4-1) that ended in a 49-28 final score.  Johnny White led the effort with his best outing ever, finishing with 34 carries for 368 yards and 6 touchdowns.  He also surpassed, for the moment, Crezdon Butler's career rushing record.  Butler finished with 14 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown.  It was the Cougar offense's largest point total of the year, while the defense held the 7th ranked Panthers' potent offense to below its average point total of 35.5 per game.  Asheville (9-0, 5-0) ends the regular season at home this Friday with North Buncombe (6-4, 2-3).  Barring a major upset, the Cougars will be the 2005 MAC Champions and should be a very high seed in the playoffs.  Asheville is 28-1 in the MAC over the last four seasons.(Note:  White now has 4,623 career rushing yards (78 TDs) and 1,355 for the season.  Butler has 4,457 career yards and 820 for 2005.)
