Asheville - September 23, 2005 - Crezdon Butler's 9 yard run in the third quarter against Freedom High established him as the all-time career rushing leader at Asheville High/Lee Edwards, surpassing the previous record of 4,005 yards held by Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice. The game was halted and Butler was presented the game ball by Asheville Coach Danny Wilkins. Justice starred at Lee Edwards from 1940-42 and was one of the greatest players of all time at LEHS and UNC. Butler, a Clemson recruit, also has tremendous potential and we wish him the very best for the remainder of his high school career and beyond!

Friday Night The Cougar Football team under the Friday night lights defended its new turf against the Brevard Blue Devils for their first home game win of the season (17-0). Photo from Asheville High Website.
Asheville - September 16, 2005 - The Asheville Cougar football team (#3, 3A) defeated Brevard High (#2, 2A) by a score of 17-0 in their 2005 home opener and first football game on the long-awaited synthetic turf at Asheville High Memorial Stadium.
Seniors Crezdon Butler and Johnny White each had TD runs and Neville Hayes kicked a 37 yard field goal. Perhaps the most impressive effort of the night was by the Cougar defense, who shut out the potent Blue Devil offense. The Cougar "D" recovered two fumbles and senior Vincent Henry had a key interception. The Cougar Sports Network televised the game and the new turf looks beautiful on TV. Asheville moves to 3-0 on the season versus non-conference opponents.
Keep an eye on Crezdon Butler and Johnny White, who are approaching Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice’s school record for career yards:
Charlie Justice’s Career Rushing Record: 286 carries, 4,005 yds, 40 TD’s (3 Seasons - 1940-42)Crezdon Butler: 460 carries 3,637 yds, 43 TD’s (3 Seasons - 2002-04)Johnny White: 376 carries, 3,268 yds, 59 TD’s (2 Seasons - 2003-04)
