April 4, 2005 – AHS Lady Cougar and future NC Tar Heel Rashanda McCants continues to collect post season honors as she has been named to the Parade All-America Team, as selected by coaches, scouts, and recruiters. McCants, a 6-2 forward, finished her senior season averaging 20.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists as the Lady Cougars (32-0) won their third consecutive 3A state title.
McCants had previously been named the NC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by the Associated Press, First Team All NC by the AP, Gatorade NC Player of the Year, and a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All American (she was MVP with 27 points in the game played April 2nd at Univ. of Indianapolis).
Also, a reception was recently held at McDonald’s in Biltmore to recognize McCants’ selection as a McDonald’s All American. She was presented luggage and a monogrammed All American game jersey to be worn in the McDonald’s All Star Game on March 30th at the Univ. of Notre Dame. Asheville Mayor Charles Worley proclaimed March 25th as “Rashanda McCants Day” in Asheville.

Raleigh, NC - March 12, 2005 - The Asheville High Lady Cougars defeated High Point Central High 72-65 for their third consecutive 3A State Championship and 54th straight win at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh on Saturday. Danielle Burgin was named Wendy's MVP and Lauren Powell was named Most Outstanding Player from the West.

The game can be seen via tape delay exclusively on the Cougar Sports Network and Charter Cable Channel 16 daily at 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. Special thanks go out to the CSN broadcast crew for an outstanding job in this large venue. The staff consisted of Jared Amos (AHS graduate) and Mike Luther, Producers; Adam Kowalski (AHS graduate), Jonah Miller (AHS student), Scott Andes (AHS student), and Paul West (AHS graduate) on camera; with Chris Henke (AHS student) on audio.
