November 2, 2008 - By Andrew Pearson , Asheville Citizen-TimesJohn Harwell went into the dense woods of Tanglewood Park a second time Saturday morning as a contender. The Asheville High junior came out as the NCHSAA 3-A boys cross-country champion, thumping down one triumphant stride after another. Keenly using the vegetation as a landmark, Harwell threw forth a surge in the final 1,000 meters to win the Cougars' first state title since 2001 in 15 minutes, 57.36 seconds. First Wrestling Practice for 2008-2009 Season is Monday October 27th at 3:45. Anyone interested in wrestling or acting as a manager for the team needs to be at this practice. All wrestlers must have a physical completed before they can participate. Physical forms are available in Coach Wells’ office. Please see Coach Soboleski for more information.

News Release - October 30, 2008 - Asheville High School’s Field Hockey team finished regular season play on a cold and blustery Tuesday night with a 5 – 1 win at NW Guilford High School in Greensboro. This victory and a regular season record of 20 wins and 1 loss have earned the Cougars the Number 1 seed in the N.C. High School StateTournament.
