AthleticNews CHAPEL HILL - Wachovia Bank, N.A., and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association have announced the final standings for the 2007-08 academic year in the Wachovia Cup competitions after the spring sports seasons.  

The Wachovia Cup award, sponsored by Wachovia Bank, N.A., and the NCHSAA, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within each of the state’s four competitive classifications.  The Wachovia Cup program has concluded its 29th year.

Charlotte Catholic remained first in the 3-A classification on the strength of a men’s dual team tennis state championship and a finish in the top eight in women’s soccer for a total of 470 points. Three-time defending Wachovia champ Asheville T.C. Roberson had 402.5 points and tied for second with Asheville High School. Roberson had state runner-up finishes in both women’s soccer and women’s outdoor track while Asheville placed third in men’s outdoor track and sixth in women’s outdoor track.

CHARLOTTE - Asheville High rising senior Sophia Treakle came away from the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, June 29th, with a bronze medal and personal record in the 400-meter hurdles.

Treakle's time of 1 minute, 1.11 seconds is the fastest run by a North Carolina girl this year and the fourth best in state history.

University of Central Florida recruit Aisha Frazier, who hails from Marietta, Ga., won Sunday's race (59.94) at Charlotte's Belk Track.

Here are the highlights from the end of the Asheville High 2008 outdoor track season:
 
AHS Women 
The Women's team had undeniably the best season ever recorded.  Under the guidance of head coach Randy Ashley and assistant coach Alvin Pickett, and volunteer Chi Sawyer, the girls came in 3rd at the County Meet, 2nd at the Conference Meet and 2nd at the 3A West Regional Meet at TC Roberson on May 10, 2008.
 
Highlights of the West Regional meet include Sophia Treakle (Jr) taking first place medals in the 100 meter hurdles(14.79) and 300 meter hurdles (45.51) setting regional records in both events.  Emily Egelhoff-Whalen (Jr) ran the 800 meters in 2:20.34 to finish in 3rd place; just missing a win by hundredths of a second.
