Basketball : Basketball 3A West Sectional Pairings

Women's Tournament:
All first round sectional games are scheduled for Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. All sectional semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, February 24 at 7 p.m., with sectional finals on Saturday, February 26.

Class 3A West
When equal seeds meet, priority for hosting the games will be given in the following order: Mountain Athletic, Southwestern Foothills, Big South.

: Rashanda McCants Named Double All-American

Asheville Girls Basketball senior standout Rashanda McCants was recently selected as one of twenty women to play in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American Game at the University of Indianapolis on April 2nd. She has also been named a McDonald's All-American and will play in that prestigious all-star classic at the University of Notre Dame on March 30th.

McCants (6'2", 20.6 ppg, 7.9 rebs, 5.1 assts, 5.2 steals, 3.2 blocks) is one of only four WNC girls to score over 2,000 career points. Last season, she was named the 2004 Asheville Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year, and iHigh.com's 3A Miss Basketball for North Carolina. She will play for the UNC Lady Tarheels next season.

McCants shares the All-American honor with two of her family members: brother Rashad McCants (UNC-CH) in basketball, and cousin Cameron Maybin (T.C. Roberson HS) in baseball. Congratulations, Rashanda!

Basketball : Cougars "Blackout" Charlotte Christian, McCants scores 2,000

Asheville -- Cougar Fans dressed in black clothing in an attempt to "Blackout" visiting team Charlotte Christian on January 28. The Blackout was successful for the women, who came away with an 88-44 victory. Rashanda McCants was awarded the game ball for 2,000 carrer points. She gave a triple-double performance of 27 points, 12 steals and 12 assists.

Asheville lost to Charlotte Christian 2 years in a row, blemishing the two-time state champions' records, but not this year.

Other players scoring in double digits were Danielle Burgin (18 points), Lauren Powell (17 points) and Maya Mitchell (16 points).
