Raleigh, NC - March 12, 2005 - The Asheville High Lady Cougars defeated High Point Central High 72-65 for their third consecutive 3A State Championship and 54th straight win at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh o­n Saturday.  Danielle Burgin was named Wendy's MVP and Lauren Powell was named Most Outstanding Player from the West.

CONGRATULATIONS LADY COUGARS, WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!

The game can be seen via tape delay exclusively on the Cougar Sports Network and Charter Cable Channel 16 daily at 5:00 and 8:00 p.m.  Special thanks go out to the CSN broadcast crew for an outstanding job in this large venue.  The staff consisted of Jared Amos (AHS graduate) and Mike Luther, Producers; Adam Kowalski (AHS graduate), Jonah Miller (AHS student), Scott Andes (AHS student), and Paul West (AHS graduate) on camera; with Chris Henke (AHS student) on audio.  The announcers were Scot Powell and Lewis Isaac.  Tim Amos is the Executive Producer.

Asheville, NC - March 8, 2005 - The Cougar Sports Network's cameras will be at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh this Saturday to cover the 3A Women's Basketball Championship for tape-delayed broadcast, CSN Executive Producer Tim Amos announced today.  "We are grateful that the NCHSAA has granted us broadcast rights for this special event for the third consecutive year," said Amos.

"Our truck will roll out of Asheville at 6:00 a.m. o­n Saturday morning, (weather permitting) to be set up and ready for the 5:00 p.m. tipoff.  We will have a top-notch crew producing the game, including Emmy Scholar Jared Amos (Senior Producer), and Asheville High Video Teacher Michael Luther (Director).  Current Asheville High students will also be playing major roles in the production. This will be an excellent experience for our students - televising a game from yet another major Division I sports arena." 

As previously announced, Scot Powell and Lewis Isaac will be the commentators for their third consecutive Championship Game.  The game will be aired o­n Charter Cable Channel 16 at a date yet to be announced.

Basketball Winston-Salem, NC - March 5, 2004 - The Asheville High Lady Cougars (31-0) defeated Fred T. Foard (28-3) by a score of 80-67 today to advance to the 3A Championship game for the third consecutive year.   They will face High Point Central at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh o­n Saturday, March 12th at 5:00 PM.  Asheville set a new school record for most wins in a season, eclipsing the 30-1 mark held by the 1987 State Championship team.  Congratulations Asheville!!  Check back often, more State Championship information to follow . . .

Basketball Winston-Salem, NC - March 2, 2005 - Asheville (30-0) and ranked 19th in the nation, kept its 52-game winning streak alive and moved to the Western Regional Championship Game by rolling over West Rowan (25-5) 82-50.  All-American Rashanda McCants led the way with 32 points, while Lauren Powell had 21 and Danielle Burgin added 11 points.  The Lady Cougars will meet Fred T. Foard at 2:30 p.m. o­n Saturday for the regional championship.

Basketball Asheville, NC - February 24, 2005 - The Asheville High Lady Cougars basketball team (28-0) demolished E. Gaston 78-52 for their 50th consecutive victory to reach the 3A Sectional Finals.  The Lady Cougars will play Hickory (26-2) at home o­n Saturday, February 26th.  It is o­nce again BLACKOUT NIGHT - all Cougar fans are asked to dress in black.  Go Lady Cougars!!
