Asheville High senior Mackenzie LaSure repeated as the NCHSAA 3-A tennis tournament’s singles champion by beating teammate Alix Theodossiou, 6-3, 6-0, October 29th in Greensboro.
LaSure said she has committed to play college tennis for Appalachian State. She was the 3-A singles runner-up as a sophomore before winning the championship as a junior.
Theodossiou’s appearance in the state-championship match was her best-ever showing in singles. Her only losses for the season were to teammate LaSure.
The Asheville Team, MAC Champions, made it to the state semifinals before losing to private school Charlotte Catholic 8-1 on November 2nd. LaSure won her match for the Cougars and finished the season 28-0, while Theodossiou was 26-3.

The Cougar Sports TV Network is Back!

Charlie Glazener will handle the play by play duties for the regular season, and Doug Piercy will provide analysis. CSN will televise three regular season home games in 2011: Enka, Roberson and Erwin. Doug Piercy joined the Cougar Sports Network in 1999 as a football analyst, where he was involved with the Cougar Sports Network broadcast of the 3A State Championship Football game in Chapel Hill. Piercy has been involved with both live audiocasts and cable telecasts of Asheville High sports. He played football and basketball at Asheville High School, and continued his football career at Western Carolina University. Charlie Glazener is the Public Information Officer of the Asheville City Schools. His broadcast experience includes production of City Schools original programming for broadcast on Channel 16. He is also serving as Producer of CSN telecasts this season. Executive Producer Tim Amos and Analyst/Statistician Lewis Isaac will be involved in WMYA TV-40 live broadcasts of South Carolina Football during the regular season, and will return to the Cougar Sports Network during playoff televised appearances.

 For the seventh year in a row, the radio home for Asheville High Cougar Football is ESPN Radio 1310 & 970. Weekly pregame broadcasts begin on game nights at 7pm. The broadcast features a conference scoreboard, athlete of the week segment, Coaches Corner with Danny Wilkins, halftime show, and postgame wrap up. This year, ESPN Radio 1310 & 970 introduces a new broadcast team to the booth: Doug Maurer, who has served the last two seasons as voice of the Asheville Tourists, will handle play by play duties for Asheville High Football. Joining him will be color analyst Jon Allred in his first season in the booth. Seth Stewart will host the halftime show and conference scoreboard segments as well as serving as studio analyst and broadcast producer/engineer. Tune into all the action of Cougar Football on ESPN Radio 1310 & 970.
