Basketball November 12, 2010 - Rashanda McCants was honored tonight at the Tuscola football game with the retiring of her basketball jersey #32. McCants led the Lady Cougars to three consecutive State Basketball Championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

McCants joins former AHS, NC State and WNBA star Rhonda Mapp as only the second Lady Cougar to be honored in this manner.

Asheville High field hockey players Acacia Carman-Hauri and Addie Dechant have been selected to play in a statewide all-star game against North Carolina private-school players November 14 at Davidson College.

This is the first year for the event which will also include Asheville School’s Sydney Coggiola and Carolina Day’s Lauren Hughes.

October 30, 2010 - It wasn't like Mackenzie LaSure lacked inspiration for winning the NCHSAA 3-A girls tennis singles championship Saturday afternoon. A year ago, she'd lost in the state finals. And earlier in the week, her Asheville High dual team had been eliminated from the playoffs.

Football October 29, 2010 – Asheville High School officially retired the Number 20 jersey of football standout John Avery in a ceremony at halftime during tonight’s game with North Buncombe.

Avery played for the Cougars during the 1992 and 1993 seasons. He joins legends Dan Hill, Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice, Ray Roberts, and Leonard Little on the short list of those with retired jerseys.
