And Friday, the sixth-seeded Cougars couldn't even score against second-seeded South Point. The Red Raiders held Asheville in check at Lineberger Stadium and notched a 28-0 home victory in the third round of the NCHSAA 3-A football playoffs.

November 15, 2008 - The Asheville High defense didn't always have an answer for R-S Central, but the Cougars' offense passed its first postseason test with flying colors. Senior tailback Greg Ray scored three touchdowns and rushed for 152 yards Friday at Memorial Stadium, leading the No. 6 seed Cougars to a 42-24 win over 11th-seeded R-S Central in the NCHSAA 3-A football playoffs. Asheville (8-3) will play the winner of tonight's Tuscola-Hunter Huss game next week in the second round.

November 8, 2008 - Charlotte Catholic (Ranked #1, and eventual 2008 3A Champion) defeated the Asheville Cougars in the quarterfinals of men's soccer play by a score of 6-0. Asheville finished the season as MAC Co-Champions with a record of 21-5-1. Congratulations!! Kenneth Lingerfelt (Jr.) was named to the All-State Team by the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association. Five Cougars were named to the All-Region team.

November 8, 2008 - By Romando Dixson - Asheville Citizen-TimesSecond place didn't seem like much motivation for an Asheville High football team accustomed to winning conference titles. Now first place, that's a different story. The Cougars rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit Friday night to ruin North Buncombe's senior night and score a stirring 14-10 victory in the Mountain Athletic Conference. The win, combined with Tuscola's stunning home loss to Roberson, gives Asheville (7-3, 5-1) at least a share of the MAC title for the fourth straight season.
