Asheville – Conference play is underway as the men’s and women’s basketball teams continue their regular seasons.

Cameron Crazies? Not quite, but equally despised! Roberson students at left challenge Asheville students at right. First Year men’s coach Tiger Norman is leading his team to a strong start. Asheville’s conference opener was a doubleheader against the Rams of T.C. Roberson. No love was lost between these two schools as huge crowds turned out on both sides to create an energetic atmosphere. Despite a large crowd and great effort, The men’s team was unsuccessful, losing 72-63.

After the Roberson loss, the men’s team has not lost a conference game since and only lost one non-conference game to 4A East Burke 64-56. Along the way, Asheville has defeated Enka, Freedom, Reynolds, Erwin, and Hendersonville. The men are currently ranked third in the conference according to Citizen-Times.com.
The Lady Cougars have struggled early in the season. Enjoying the same crowd and atmosphere as the men at the Roberson game, the ladies were likewise defeated, receiving a 63-58 loss to Roberson. Since the Roberson game, the ladies have defeated only Erwin and Hendersonville. (Hendersonville was soundly defeated 74-32). The Lady Cougars are tied for fourth in the conference according to Citizen-Times.com.
