Ken Blocker

Head Coach

Probable Starters:
G 33 Quanda Williams 5-9 Sr.
G 22 Ebony Harris 5-5 Sr.
C 53 Tamara Cherry 6-2 Sr.
F 35 Taneisha White 5-7 Fr.
F 32 Brittany Rochelle 5-4 Jr.
Top Reserves:
C 42 Patience Coleman 6-0 Fr.
F 34 Shakara Hayes 5-7 Sr.
G 31 Desare Locklear 5-5 Fr.

Comments from Coach Blocker:

"Our record is 21-8… we got off to a rocky start - started 4-7, then got on a roll after Christmas, and we've been playing good basketball for the last month"

On the road to the championship: (Close victory in Eastern Region final - 52-54) "We started our run in the conference tournament, we finished 3rd in the regular season. We won the conference tournament, beating number 1 and 2 in the regular season. We worked our way up the bracket and ended up playing 29-1 Goldsboro. It was a hard fought nip and tuck type game, with 11 lead changes, and the largest point deficit was 4 points. We were down by four with 1:00 left in the game. We scored, hit a 3, and forced a turnover. Williams hit the front end of a 1 and 1, then we put up 2 points with 10 seconds remaining. They missed a 3, and we blocked their shot at the end. It went literally to the buzzer."

On his players: "Ebony [Harris, #22], a senior guard missed her junior year due to injury. We made a surge because of her return in the second half of the season. She's a good shooter, good ball handler, and also a leader on the team."

#33 Quanda Williams, 5-9 Sr.:"A 4 time all Durham area player, 4 time all conference, is our leading senior with 19 ppg. She averaged 22 ppg last year because Ebony was out. A very athletic player."

"P.G. Brittany Rochelle [5-4, Jr., #32]is our primary ball handler."

"#42 Patience Coleman [6-0, Fr.] is a nationally ranked high jumper, I believe she holds the record in her age group. She will be leaving this game to go to the Nike Nationals. She is a good multi-sport athlete in volleyball, track and basketball, and has the potential to be very good."

On Asheville: "The size of Asheville - that definitely poses a problem, it would with anyone. We'll watch the game [against High Point Central] tonight and see if we can find a way to slow it down. We try to hang around to the 4th quarter, we've been doing it all season, trying to slow it down." "We will look at Asheville's inside game, look at their size - that's college size, and they have the skill to go along with it."

Other Comments about the season, team's success: "We snuck in under the radar," "hopefully we can continue, it's been one heck of a run""Back around Christmas, there was no way we dreamed of being where we are now."
